The Tuzos from Pachuca Uruguayan coach Guillermo Almada became the new champion of Mexican soccer this Sunday, defeating 3-1 Toluca and beat him 8-2 in the final of opening of the contest. Volpi saved Toluca in the 26th minute, with Luis Chávez’s left-footed shot, after which the local team produced the best plays.
At 45 + 2, Ibáñez missed a penalty, but a minute later Spaniard Paulino de la Fuente shot on goal and Guzmán grabbed a rebound from Volpi to tie the game and return the final in favor of everything is his.
Pachuca put the capstone against the Devils in the 52nd minute with a forehand goal from Ibáñez to break the tie and put the series at 7-2, a huge margin, with 38 minutes to play. After a brief midfield battle, in the 74th minute Gustavo Cabral converted a penalty to increase the final score to 8-2, one of the widest margins in Mexico’s title-contesting series.
Pachuca confirmed itself as the most successful team in Mexican soccer in the last quarter century, adding its seventh league title since 1999 to its five Concacaf titles, the 2006 South American Cup and third place in the Club World Cup. Toluca, which fought until the last minute, maintained its league title drought, which stretches to 12 years.
