Aleix: “We don’t deserve to be champions; third would be fair”

Date:

Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia RS-GP) acknowledged this Thursday at the Cheste circuit, the scene of this weekend’s Valencian Community Grand Prix, that his team did not deserve “to be world champion”, but that third position “would be fair”.

“I think we didn’t deserve to be world champions, we were very close, but Pecco (Bagnaia) and Fabio (Quartararo) had more speed,” he adds.

“It is true that Enea (Bastiaini) has won many races, he has been the revelation driver of the year, but we also deserve third place. So I am excited, very, excited, and we will fight, we have made many changes , this week I talked a lot with (the factory of) Noale, with my technician, and we tried to squeeze the orange to understand what happened in the last races and hopefully everything will go well here,” explained Espargaró.

However, he admits he still doesn’t know what the problem or problems are. “But we tried to eliminate it, that is, ride a practical new bike, return to the material from the beginning of the year with some evolutions that we made from the beginning, which I think is positive, but we are not quite that’s clear,” he added.

“We have gone back completely. The bike is quite a hybrid, one of them like the one at the beginning of the season. And then there will be time to analyze, the exact reason, there will be time to find it. The important thing is be fast again and that’s what we tried to do”, insisted Aleix Espargaró, who said he did not regret his comments on Aprilia.

“No, no. I haven’t regretted it. It probably should have been a more internal thing, but that’s who I am, I won’t change. I only have two years left in this paddock, and I’ll be in the next two. will be exactly the same person. What I feel, I say, and, certainly, and I repeat it, I am wrong, but mistakes and virtues come with the character of each person”, sentence of the Aprilia rider.

“Maybe it’s true that I was a bit too critical during the Thai and Australian Grand Prix, but the shock was huge for me, from fighting for podiums in every race to not being in the top ten and when you look a little in the forest and not in the tree, looking into the distance, last year we celebrated the Aprilia podium as a historic milestone, this year we have many podiums, pole positions, we won a race, fought for the title, so the season is wonderful, whatever happens here in Valencia”, Espargaró assured.

About the last race of the season he said: “I hope I have a good race because last year I led FP3, which was a very complicated session. In the race, until 7 or 8 laps later, when the tire fell in a lot , we’re very close to the best, so it has to work. It’s important to end the year with a podium finish and I think it’s a good track for us.”

“Now I’m focused on this weekend. What I can guarantee is that they gave their maximum -Aprilia- to give me a top bike, competitive for this weekend and we’ve built a hundred percent new bike, we’re back to a bit of things we did in the middle of the season”, continued Aleix Espargaró.

“A lot of work has been done this week to give me all the material to possibly have a good race here and I don’t want to be more critical, I’ve had enough of the last races; now I want us all. to be united and have a good weekend It’s very important for us. Finishing in the top three in the world will be historic and we have to be positive, then we will see on Monday,” said Espargaró.
