Carlos Sainz had a career at a perfect cooking point. He was third behind Russell and Perez. Both were on soft tires and had to stop before Sainz, who was third on medium tires. But the Spaniard had to pit on lap 19 and that could reduce his chances of victory and eliminate his strategic advantage in the Brazilian F1 GP this Sunday. The reason: a stroke of very bad luck. The Spaniard had a visor protector from another pilot (torn off) that got stuck in the right rear brake. This prevented him from setting a good pace and he lost steam compared to the first two and sent him into the pits earlier than expected.
In this way, Carlos Sainz had to change his approach, stopping on lap 19, too early, to put on soft tires and continue the attack. He exited the track in 11th place and quickly began to come back. And with the remaining stops, Sainz was placed 4th close to Pérez, with Hamilton leading but not yet stopping.
