Paris no longer has a Tour finish for the first time in history

Date:

The celebration of the Olympic Games in the French capital forces the end of the 2024 race to be moved to Nice for safety reasons

The 2024 Tour de France will not finish in Paris for the first time in history. The main reason for this decision is the celebration of the Olympic Games that same year in the French capital. The competition starts on June 29 and ends on July 21, just five days before the start of the biggest sporting event in the world.

Although the dates of the two events do not coincide, the organizers have decided that, in order not to compromise safety facilities and preparations, the tour of the return will end in Nice, a city accustomed to hosting one of the best competitions in the world . place on his road calendar, the classic Paris-Nice.

The Tour and Paris represent one of those unions that are destined to be eternal. However, the fact that the mythical and traditional final sprint will not be held on the Champs-Élysées will not be the only novelty of the 111th edition. The last stage crowning the champion on the shores of the Mediterranean will be an individual time trial.

The ‘Grande Boucle’ will almost certainly start in the Italian city of Florence, so for the third year in a row the Tour will start from outside France. Last summer the race started in Copenhagen and the opening party for next year will take place in Bilbao.
