The prosecution files the charge of the insults against Vinicius with the Metropolitan

Date:

The entity, despite deeming the chants “obnoxious” and “disrespectful”, understands they were released in a context “of maximum rivalry”.

The Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Madrid has agreed to file the complaint filed by Esteban Ibarra as President of the Movement Against Intolerance regarding the shouting and chanting of a group of people directed against the Real Madrid footballer Vinicius because of his skin color, as : “you are a monkey”. Despite describing the chants as “disgusting”, “inappropriate” and “disrespectful”, he understands that they were released on the occasion of a “highest rivalry” football match, along with other “disparaging or “mocking” allusions. characterized by that sports competition.

The representative of the prosecution also points out that there is no specific act and that once the insults of a racist nature are put into context, “they would not constitute a crime against the dignity of the person affected”. In this sense, he states that the said chants were not produced more than twice “and they lasted a few seconds”.

The events that are the subject of the complaint took place at around 7:25 p.m. on September 18 near the Civitas Metropolitano stadium during the moments leading up to the celebration of the football match between Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid. It stated that, coinciding with the arrival at the visiting club’s stadium aboard the company bus, a group “of about five hundred people who could not be identified and who were gathered there” chanted and chanted against the rival team’s player paying attention to his skin color: “you are a monkey, Vinicius you are a monkey”.

After the complaint was received, the Provincial Information Brigade (BPI) was notified to continue its investigation and contextualization. On the other hand, the complaint of the Professional Football League (LFP) was processed, where it was reported how already in the stadium, “before the start of the match and in the 42nd minute of it, by a group of fans in the Lower Stand of the Zuidfonds, from sectors called 127 to 133, they proceeded to utter the same chants towards the player Vinicius in a coordinated manner for about 15 seconds ».

To contextualize what happened, a link was included to the player’s Twitter account, where he posted an anti-racism message, and Atlético de Madrid’s official statement condemning these events. Finally, a police letter was received stating that after analyzing the footage obtained by the stadium’s organizational control unit, only footage was collected, but no audio, “as the stadium’s recording system does not record”. And as for the recordings obtained from abroad, the same official document states that none of the people who made the songs could be recognized, “since a considerable number of people were gathered there”.
