The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) Bulgarian chair umpire Stefan Milanov was suspended for six months and fined $10,000 after admitting that he had placed bets on matches, including one in which he was a referee.
Milanov, according to the ITIA investigation, committed two offenses included in the Anti-Corruption in Tennis Program related to the prohibition of placing bets directly or indirectly on any competition. The Bulgarian chair umpire himself recognized the violation of the regulations.
The sanction began on November 15 and will end on May 14, 2023. During this period, Stefan Milanov will not be able to referee or participate in any tournament under the control of international tennis governing bodies.
The ITIA is an independent body created, according to its statutes, to “promote, encourage, empower and safeguard” the integrity of professional tennis worldwide.
