Carlos Alcaraz won the ATP award for the biggest development of the year

Carlos Alcaraznumber 1 in world tennis, was recognized by the Association of Professional Tennis Players (ATP) as the player with the most improvement during the season, during which he won five titles, including the United States Open and finished as no. 1.

Alcaraz started 2022 at number 32, finished it at the top after winning 57 of 70 matches played and also won 1,000 Masters in Miami and Madrid and the ATP 500 in Rio de Janeiro and Barcelona.

The 19-year-old from Murcia received the votes of his fellow professionals and expressed his satisfaction in the statements released by the ATP itself: “I am delighted to receive this award and I want to thank all my colleagues who voted me the most improved player of the year”.

“For me it is an incredible achievement. This year was really good, a dream, and I will try to improve it in 2023,” added the youngest number 1 in the history of the ATP since the establishment of the classification in 1973.

“It’s a dream come true to be number 1 in the world and champion of a Grand Slam. Everything is so fast and I didn’t think at the beginning of the year that I would have this progress,” he commented.

This is the second consecutive year that Alcaraz has chosen the award and prevailed over the competition with the American Maxime Cressy, 25 years old and ranked 32, and two other youngsters such as the British Jack Draper, 20 and number 42, and the Dane Holger Rune, 19 and eleven.

In the ATP 2022 award for Alcaraz should be added for Spanish tennis achieved two days before by Rafael Nadal, chosen as Fans’ Favorite for the first time in the ATP Awards.
