Pep: “Without the World Cup, Messi would be the best in history”

Date:

Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester Citysaid on Wednesday that “Leo Messi is the best in history and my opinion about it will not change even though I didn’t win the World Cup with Argentina on Sunday” against France. The ‘citizen’ coach spoke to the media a day before his team is measured this Thursday with Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the round of 16 of the Carabao Cup in another great rivalry between two great rivals.

Leo Messi, who was managed by Pep Guardiola at Barcelona between 2008 and 2012 in the golden age for the azulgrana team, he scored two goals in the World Cup final and converted his penalty (the first for the albiceleste) in the shootout that made Argentina champions (4-2 after a 3-3 loss).

“Everyone has an opinion though no one can doubt that he (Messi) is the greatest of all time”, Pep Guardiola said about the player with whom he won 14 titles at Barcelona,a

So, Guardiola also assured about Messi: “For me, Leo is the best, it’s hard to understand how a player can compete like he did. People who saw Pelé, Alfredo Di Stéfano or Diego Maradona… Opinions always have a sentimental factor, but, on the other hand, if Messi had not won the World Cup, my opinion would not have changed.”
