Statement by Al-Nassr of Cristiano Ronaldo

Date:

The Saudi Arabian club al nassr denied reports that Cristiano Ronaldo has a clause in his contract where the Portugal striker will serve as an ambassador for the Gulf nation’s 2030 World Cup bid.

Ronaldo moved to Al-Nassr last month after signing a two-and-a-half-year contract estimated by the media to be worth more than 200 million euros. Media reports have suggested that 37-year-old Ronaldo will receive another 200 million euros to support Saudi Arabia’s World Cup bid.

“Al-Nassr FC wishes to clarify that, contrary to news, Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract with Al Nassr does not imply commitments to any World Cup bid,” the club said in a statement on Wednesday morning. “His main focus is on Al-Nassr and working with his teammates to help the club achieve success.”

The window to submit bids to host the 2030 World Cup opened last year and the winner will be chosen at the FIFA Congress in 2024. The 2026 edition of the World Cup will take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico, with the first time that the tournament will be divided between three different countries.
