The Bayern Munich want to sign goalkeeper after injury Manuel Neuerbut options in the transfer market during the winter are limited, as the Bundesliga leader’s coach said on Thursday, Julian Nagelsman.
Speaking from the Doha (Qatar) stage at the end of training this morning ahead of the resumption of the Bundesliga season next week, Nagelsmann said that while Sven Ulreich (34) was set to replace Neuer, the club needed he still has another goalie.
“Our job is to look at the market, even if it is difficult in the January transfer window to find goalkeepers, because there are not many options in the market that make sense for us,” he told a press conference.
“It is a complicated market, of goalkeepers. We are trying to do something. Ulreich has done well in training here, but we are forced to bring in another goalkeeper, regardless of who is number one and two.”
Neuer has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on a broken bone following a skiing accident. The goalkeeper suffered a broken lower leg.
Nagelsmann said the options behind Ulreich were limited to younger goalkeepers, including 19-year-old Johannes Schenk, who had no experience in top league games.
