The tables turn in the Lisbon derby and leaders Benfica surrender the advantage

Date:

The Lisbon derby between Benfica and Sporting de Portugal ended on Sunday at the Estadio da Luz with a 2-2 draw that tightened their grip at the top of the Primeira Liga table as the ‘eagles’ saw their lead cut to three points at Sporting Braga, second and also beat Boavista (1-0) today. For their part, the ‘lion’ remains fourth, 12 points behind the lead.

The derby started with a tribute to the Argentine Enzo Fernández for his victory in the World Cup in Qatar after missing last week against Portimonense (1-0), a match in which they made a special mention to his countryman Otamendi.

Surprisingly, the first goal of Benfica and the match did not benefit the eagles but Sporting because of an own goal by Danish Alexander Bah in the 27th minute.

Ramos consolidates as the leading filmmaker

A few minutes later, Gonçalo Ramos tried to make up for his two goals in the 37th and 64th minute, this one from Alejandro Grimaldo’s pass, which reaffirmed him, with 11, as the leading scorer in the championship.

But in the 53′ Pedro Gonçalves scored the only goal by a Sporting player, a penalty that ended 2-2.

Porto, who host Famalicao tonight, will be five points behind if they win.
