Emmen, third from last in the Dutch league table at the start of the week’s matches, managed to beat PSV Eindhoven 1-0 on Tuesday, third and rivals Sevilla in the Europa League playoffs, with a goal in the 24. minutes by Lucas Bernadou.
After a rebound from a corner kick, Bernadou put Emmen ahead, who had not won any of their previous four games and won just one of eight at home since the start of the season before beating PSV.
Sevilla’s opponent the following February 16 was left with ten on the verge of the break, due to a tackle by Mauro Júnior on Rui Mendes, who retired injured, and did not achieve a tie, which was also frustrated by interventions of goalkeeper Van der Hart.
PSV, third, are unbeaten since before the break for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, on November 12, but since the resumption of the Dutch championship they have had a losing streak of one win, two draws and today’s loss.
