The number one in world tennis, the Serbian Novak Djokovic, defeated his countryman on Wednesday Laslo Djere (50) 2-6, 7-6 (6) and 7-6 (4), in a tense and uncertain match until the end, in the tournament Belgrade ATP 250or, before 8,500 viewers.
Djere prevailed in the first set without encountering strong resistance from Djokovic, who was not in his best form because this year he had only played five games since he was banned from several tournaments due to his refusal to be vaccinated against in covid-19.
The tennis player arrived on the court on April 12 for the first time since February, in a match Monte Carlo where he was defeated by the Spaniards Alexander Davidovich.
This time, however, Djokovic, 34, insisted on not giving up and fought every point in the tight set against his eight -year -old rival in the first duel of the two.
The third set followed the same rhythm of uncertainty in every game. The game lasted three hours and 21 minutes.
In the previous game, the Serbian Myomir Kecmanovic (38) surpassed the Australian John Millman (80) 6-4, 7-6, and his next opponent will be Djokovic tomorrow.
