RB Leipzig qualified for the German Cup final by beating Union Berlin 2-1 thanks to a late goal from Emile Forsberg of Sweden in the third minute of stoppage time.
Forsberg headed in a cross from Benjamin Henrich to define a game that started to lose.
In the 25th minute Sheraldo Becker opened the scoring for Union Berlin with a left-footed shot from the side of the box after receiving a beautiful diagonal cross from Christopher Trimmel from the right flank.
Until Becker’s goal the arrival of both teams is hard to come by. in the 12th minute Dominique Szoboszlai finished badly, from a good position, to a great Leipzig promotion.
On the Union side in the 15th minute Grischa Prömel had a good chance when she finished with a corner kick shot by Trimmel from right to the nearby post.
That’s pretty much all in terms of plays in the area. The two teams are extremely cautious and seem to be waiting for an error from the opponent and trying not to give each other space.
Becker’s goal forced Leipzig to try to make the game and found a Union standing behind, previously doubling on the player who carried the ball and shutting down chances to come in the middle.
In the 37th minute, after a great combination, André Silva had the only chance to equalize for Leipzig before being relegated, but he finished slightly wide.
In the second half the game began to play out predominantly in the Union half which, however, in the 57th minute would soon add to the account with a counterattack led by Becker.
Leipzig pressed but still struggled to get there. A header by Willy Orban, deflected, in the 48th minute, and a very central shot by Dani Olmo in the 55th minute were two separate attempts.
However, a penalty, caused by an unfortunate foul by Jaeckel on Nkunku, brought the tie to 61st by André Silva.
Then the game has arrivals for both teams. In the 71st minute Awonyi was close for Union but Leipzig was the team with the most initiative.
Ultimately, Forsberg’s header put Leipzig in the final, where they had to face SC Freiburg.
