Sampdoria received a blank envelope on Monday with a shotgun shell inside and a note with a threat: “This time it’s blank, next time it will be real.”
The events took place at the club’s headquarters, at Corte Lambruschini (Genoa), and the message was addressed to Edoardo Garrone, former president of the club, and Massimo Ferrero, the largest shareholder since 2014.
The division of general investigations and special operations (DIGOS, for its Italian acronym), an agency belonging to the Ministry of the Interior, is investigating the source of the threat.
the culprits
Sampdoria are in penultimate place in Serie A with nine points, another nine from the safety spots. A complicated sporting situation exacerbated by the club’s financial problems and which fans attribute to the Garrone-Ferrero management.
Ferrero, who has been in charge since 2014, has been blamed for financial management, while Garrone has been blamed for the poor choice of leaving Ferrero as his successor in the top manager position.
fan protests
This morning, a group of 70 fans protested against each other at the headquarters of the ERG group, whose president is Garrone. The fans, according to local media reports, lit smoke bombs and put up a banner with the message ‘Garrone-Mondini, what a shame’.
