Armand Duplantispole vault world record holder and reigning Olympic champion, will not compete in March at the European indoor track in Istanbul (Turkey), as confirmed by Kajsa Bergqvist, captain of the Swedish athletics team.
Duplantis gave up competing in the continental indoor championships to focus on the outdoor season after winning three competitions held this year so far.
“I expect him to come but I have 100 percent confidence that he is planning the season correctly based on his goals and his focus on being the best possible when it matters most,” said Kajsa Bergqvist, in statements on the official website of the Federation of Swedish athletics.
The pole vaulter won in Uppsala (Sweden) with a best jump of 6.10 meters, in Berlin (Germany) with 6.06 and in Lievin (France) with 6.01. In three competitions he was unable to break the continental indoor record, which he held with a mark of 6.20 meters.
Duplantis will close the indoor track season on February 25 at the All Star Perche in Clemont-Ferrand (France).
