It took Medvedev two hours to seal his seventh straight victory and move into his 29th tour final to bring his career trophies to seventeen.
He will play for the Doha title against Murray who gave an exhibition against Czech Jiri Lehecka. Medvedev has won the two meetings he has played against Murray. In Brisbane in 2019 and most recently at the Miami Masters 1000 last year.
Andy Murray saved five match points against Lehecka, who he overcame after two and a half hours and three sets (6-0, 3-6 and 7-6(6)) to reach the final of the Doha tournament.
The 35-year-old Scotsman, ranked 70th in the ATP rankings, is looking to reach his 47th title in Doha. This will be his first finals of 2023. He has not contested for a title since he lost those in Stuttgart, in May 2022, and Sydney in January 2022. His last title was further away, in Antwerp, in 2019 .
The British, once number one in the world, stuck to the competition as usual. He was on the ropes but kept his cool and turned the situation around to play the final again in Doha as he did in 2017, where he lost to Novak Djokovic, and in 2007, outlasted Croatian Ivan Ljubicic.
