As was the case in the final of the Ostrava tournament in October, the Czech Barbora Krejcikova the number one in the world, the Polish, lost Iga Swiatekto win this time at the WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai, the sixth of her career and the first in 2023.
Krejcikova defeated Swiatek 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 32 minutes. It was the second victory in four meetings for the Czech against the world number one who could not find a way to turn the situation around.
The Czech, 30th in the WTA ranking, won the Dubai title that eluded her in 2021, when she reached the final, adding to her victories in Tallinn and Ostrava last year, and Strasbourg, Prague and, more in all, Roland Garros in 2021.
It was the third defeat of the year for Swiatek, who this season has already secured the Doha trophy captured at the weekend and is seeking the thirteenth prize of his career in Dubai.
Krejcikova completed a round week in which she surpassed the first three players in the world: the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenkathe American Jessica Pegula and the polish Iga Swiatek.
