Fekir, low for the rest of the season after breaking the crusader

Date:

The French midfielder was injured in the game against Elche and will have to miss a crucial part of the race

Bad news for Betis. Nabil Fekir will need surgery and will miss the rest of the season after medical tests he underwent on Monday confirmed the French midfielder has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

The former Olympique de Lyon footballer suffered a hyperextension of his left knee during one of the last plays of the match between Betis and Elche last Friday at the Martínez Valero Stadium, which corresponds to the twenty-third day of the competition. After 48 hours of said set, Fekir was thoroughly examined by the doctors and the worst possible prognosis was fulfilled.

It is the second time that Fekir has torn a cruciate ligament, an injury he already suffered in September 2015, when his right leg fell off defending the French team’s elastic in a match against Portugal at Lisbon’s José Alvalade stadium.

The Algerian-born medium, capital in the equipment of Manuel Pellegrini, will miss a crucial part of the campaign in which Betis, currently fifth in the league, will increase their chances of being present at the next edition of the Champions and will continue to fight to abolish the Europa League, a competition in which last Friday’s round of 16 draw saw the Verdiblancos cross the clocks against Manchester United, with the first leg on March 9 at Old Trafford and the return scheduled for a week later at Benito Villamarin.
