Valverde pulled Bilbao Athletic to Lezama

Date:

Athletic will face an important match tomorrow in its fight to get into the European zone through the League. Valverde’s men, ninth in the table at the end of the last day, visit Rayo Vallecano de Iraola. The Madrid team is in sixth position in the standings with two points above the lions who are tied with Villarreal, seventh, and one above Osasuna, eighth.

It looks like there won’t be more casualties on the Bilbao side than expected. Yesterday’s training in Lezama, the return to activity after the cup defeat against Osasuna in El Sadar, took place with a large presence of players from Bilbao Athletic. The session, as has been customary for some time now at Athletic, was held behind closed doors, so little was revealed about Valverde’s intentions with this massive increase in puppies. Maybe it was a practice game between the first and second teams.

Unai Simón, whose current condition is unknown since the Bilbao club announced on Sunday that he suffered “an injury to his right Achilles tendon” against Girona, did not appear with the group. On Wednesday, he was removed from the squad and his place on the bench was taken by Ispizua. Ander Herrera didn’t show up with his teammates either.

The creators are Nico Williams and Raúl García. Both were doubtful for the cup visit to El Sadar, but ended up getting minutes against Osasuna. The youngest, who was sidelined against Girona due to a “sprain to the internal lateral ligament of his right knee”, entered the pitch in the 65th minute to replace Muniain. His veteran teammate, who ended the last league match with a “sprained left acromioclavicular joint”, joined the rojillos clash seven minutes earlier at the expense of Berenguer, also from Navarre and ex-rojillo.

Yeray reason is low

Another of the lions held after the league match against Girona was Yeray. The right-footed center back was replaced in the 68th minute by Lekue after noticing some discomfort in the adductor and he spent the entire match against Osasuna sitting on the bench. Iñigo Martínez, who the day before had not been cleared, became the center of Bilbao’s defense against the rojillos.

Yeray’s loss, in any case, is certain to Vallecas, since last Sunday he saw the fifth yellow card. Barakaldo’s defender, who was therefore suspended, worked yesterday in Lezama under the supervision of retrainer Xabi Clemente.
