Garciawho lost the Monterrey final in 2015, had more physicality in the exchange with Mertens and bet the game close to the net to earn the winning points that gave him a 6-3 lead in the first set.
Caroline tipped the balance in her favor in the sixth game, when the Belgian seemed to have saved her serve, however unforced errors allowed the Frenchwoman to break it and sentence the set.
The Frenchwoman was unopposed in the second set, where her serve was not threatened and instead she broke her rival again, to win the set 6-4 and qualify for a second time in the final in Monterrey.
“I’m happy to be a finalist for the second time. It was a tough game against Mertens, who didn’t make it easy for me. I’m enjoying the tournament, it’s a pleasure to play here,” said Garcia, after success.
Vekicseeking his first tour trophy since 2021, defeated Zhu 7-5, 6-2.
In the first round, the Croatian resisted the pressure put on him by the Chinese until the end, saving his serve and breaking his rival once to win 7-5.
Donna Vekic had less trouble in the second set, where she shot 77.3 percent on her first serve, winning 14 points, giving her the final set 6-2.
The final of the tournament which distributes a prize of $259,303 will be played this Sunday at the Club Sonoma stadium, in Monterrey, a city in northern Mexico.
