The former captain of France Wendy Renardwho announced last month that he would retire from the national team, now says he is ready to return if the former coach takes over Corinne Deacon want to get him. Renard announced last month that he would not play in this summer’s World Cup to preserve his mental health, and RMC Sport reported that he will not represent the national team while Diacre is in charge.
Last week, the French federation sacked Diacre on the recommendation of an Executive Committee, and Olympique Lyonnais defender Renard told ‘Europe 1’ that he is ready to return if the next manager wants to work with him.
“The manager will choose me if I perform well at my club… but why not (return)?” he said. “I’m a competitor at heart. I love this jersey and I want to do everything I can to win a title in it.”
France are looking to win their first World Cup this summer in Australia and New Zealand (July 20-August 2). They begin their campaign in Group F against Jamaica, on July 23, before taking on Brazil and Panama.
