The Spain Golf Tour, with 11 tournaments in four communities and three in Portugal

The Association of Golf Professionals of Spain presented this Wednesday the eighth edition of National golf circuit, since the competition was recovered in 2016, at the Higher Sports Council with the presence of the Secretary of State for Sport, José Manuel Franco; the president of the PGA, Ander Martínez, and the president of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, Gonzaga Escauriaza.

Ander Martínez, president of the PGA of Spain, opened the event: “The PGA is the oldest of the sports associations and, therefore, PGA professionals are the best channel for transmitting the values ​​of golf as well as for promoting the sport at all levels . They are a reference, not only for victories on all world circuits, in addition to having the honor of having among their colleagues a world number 1 such as Jon Rahm. It is also a benchmark in player training, as one of the most loved and respected PGAs in Europe”, commented the president of the PGA, stressing that “this circuit is one of the dreams of Seve Ballesteros, so that Spanish professionals can compete and prepare for the great events in Europe, and their memory and their teachings are still alive in the Society, which tries to choose courses designed by the master of Ped queen”.

Ander emphasized that “we come again to present a circuit that continues to grow, and that will add eleven tournaments in four different communities, the largest number of tournaments where the competition will return in 2016: Catalonia , the Basque Country, Madrid and Castilla y León; in addition to the three international tournaments held in Portugal, with the support of Turismo Centro de Portugal”.

Gonzaga Escauriaza, President of the Royal Spanish Golf Federationhighlighted the good harmony between RFEG and PGA, “working together to promote this sport. And in our sport, one PGA is more important than the other because golf is very technical and complex and it is teachers and golf professionals who help beginners promote and teach golf. José Manuel Franco, Secretary of State for Sports and president of the Higher Sports CouncilHe is sincerely grateful that the PGA has once again chosen CSD as its home to present the new edition of the National Circuit, the eighth edition. “It is an honor for me to receive the PGA of Spain because of how much golf represents in society, and spread throughout the geography of Spain, bringing golf closer to many corners of Spain and also jumping to Portugal this year, which there are three tests with neighboring countries and friends. They all have advantages when it comes to this circuit.”

Franco added the importance of public-private collaboration for this circuit and any sporting event that will continue. “We strongly believe, not only in golf but in sport as a whole, that public-private partnerships are important. Without forgetting the number of jobs generated by sport in general and its contribution to GDP, which is very important; and golf contributes a very important part and is very important to consider”.

The PGA Spain Golf Tour 2023 calendar will consist of eleven tournaments this year, the largest number of tournaments in the last eight years, and will begin with the second edition of the PGAe Open de Barcelona by Pablo Larrazábal at the RCG El Prat course, a tournament that coincides with the Augusta Masters, the first Grand Slam of the season.

New for this edition of the PGA Spain Golf Tour 2023 is the recovery of the Iberian Cup, which will pit professionals from Spain and Portugal against each other in individual and team competition and will be held at The Guardia Bom Sucesso in September; and the PGAe Doubles Championship will return, held over two rounds at Izki Golf, a Seve Ballesteros design in Álava.

50th anniversary of Lomas Bosque

The circuit will continue with the XVII PGAe Doubles Championship, which will be held at Izki Golf, a public course designed by Seve Ballesteros and inaugurated in 1994 with a layout of wide fairways surrounded by oak and holly trees. At the end of April and the beginning of May, the circuit will travel to Lisbon to play the II Open Bom Sucesso PGAe and the I Open Montebello PGAe, one of the new tournaments, which will be held on this Portuguese course in Viseu from May. 5 to 7. , after the second edition of the Bom Sucesso Open, in the so-called “Swing Portugal”. This year three tournaments will be held in Portugal, two of them at The Guardian Bom Sucesso Resort golf course, located in Óbidos, north of the capital.

The 50th Anniversary of the Lomas Bosque course in Madrid will serve as an unparalleled setting to celebrate the Madrid Professional Championship. And almost at the end of June, another course of master Ballesteros, Meaztegi Golf will be the setting for the II Bizkaia PGAe Open.

After the summer break, the IV Portugal-Spain Iberian Cup arrives, the II Championship of Castilla y León for Professionals in Golf Entrepinos in the monumental setting of the city of Simancas; the Spanish Championship of Professionals of the RFEG and the Grand Final of the Circuit to be held in Saldaña, Burgos, where the 40 best in the National Ranking will participate.
