The Paris Games will have a new walking test

World Athletics and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) have agreed on a new marching event, the mixed team relaywhich will debut at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The mixed relay Marathon Race Walk It will have 25 teams, each consisting of one male and one female athlete.which will complete the marathon distance (42.195 km) in four sections of approximately the same distance.

Each athlete will complete two sections of over 10 km eachalternating masculine, feminine, masculine, feminine.

The marathon distance was chosen for its current popularity in athletics and its link to the traditions of the Olympic Games.

The event will take place on the same route as the individual walking events, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower in the center of Paris, and will be completed in about three hours. The requirement that each athlete complete two stages will add an endurance component to the race.

The team qualification path for this new event will be posted shortly.

“We are delighted to have another mixed relay on the Olympic program to showcase the qualities of our male and female athletes in one event. This format is designed to be innovative, dynamic and unpredictable. It will also guarantee total gender equality across the entire Olympic track and field program for the first time,” said Jon Ridgeon, CEO of World Athletics.

The Marathon Race Walk Mixed Relay will take place on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 7.30am, six days after the start of the 20km individual run event in the Paris Olympic athletics program on Thursday 1 August.

The entire Olympic track and field program will last 11 days, August 1-11and will conclude with the women’s marathon on the last day of the Games.
