The French Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa Castéra, assured this Wednesday that everything will be ready for the Olympic Games in Pariswhich should start on July 26, 2024, and the budget is not breaking through, even if it is revised, mainly due to the effect of inflation.
“We are on time“, stressed Oudéa Castéra in an interview with the radio station France Info where he insisted that all the planned infrastructure will be completed. “We are making good progress,” said the minister, who assured that the budget “is not adrift.”
In particular, he specified that the Organizing Committee for Paris 2024 is examining his 4,400 million euros, a figure revised upwards by 10% and half of that correction has to do with the effect of inflation.
He emphasized that 96% of that budget will be covered by private incomethat is, thanks to the sponsoring companies, the sale of tickets or licenses.
Added to this is 3,800 million euros from the public body Solideo that manages the infrastructure and the necessary conditioning works.
The minister expressed that in international terms “Public investments represent less than 25%” of the money needed for these Olympic Games.
When asked about the controversy over the high prices that some of the three million tickets have already sold, he tried to point out that “It’s the biggest sporting event on the planet” that only happens “once every four years.”
In addition, he indicated that a million tickets were sold for 24 euros, half for less than 50 euros and only 10% for more than 200 euros: “These are the standard prices for an Olympic Games“.
Oudéa Castéra told that during the inauguration ceremony that will take place in the Seine River corridorin the center of Paris, there will be 100,000 paying spaces in the stands planned on the docks, and in total “several hundred thousand people” will attend.
To ensure your safety and the event “there will be security perimeters” but that does not mean that every person is subject to the controls.
Regarding the presence of Russian athletes, he recalled that “the IOC (International Olympic Committee) has the last word, but listens to the parties”, and this includes the French president, Emmanuel Macron, who plans to lead the question that. this coming summer.
The minister did not want to anticipate Macron’s position, beyond recalling the two principles, that France wants to “stand firmly on the side of Ukraine” but at the same time “without contradicting some UN principles”, especially non-discrimination based on nationality. .
In any case, he also warned that athletes who openly supported Russia’s invasion of Ukraine “will not have their place at the Olympic Games.”
