Silvia Persico won the sprint in the Brabanzona Arrow

Date:

the italian Silvia Persico (UAE) won the sprint at the 8th edition of the Brabanzona Arrow contested by Lennik and Overijse with a distance of 141.2 km, ahead of one of the great favourites, the Dutch Demi Vollering and the German Movistar’s Liane Lippert.

Persico (Alzano Lombardo, 25 years old) was the fastest of the group of 7 runners who played for the victory in Overijse, thus achieving the most important victory of his career. The Italian invested a time of 3h.57.09, at an average of 39 km/hour. He raised his arms in front of Vollering and Liane Lippert, German champion wearing a Movistar jersey.

A truffled race with 23 levels and a final slope contested at the start. The decisive battle began with an attack by the British Elinor Barker (Uno X) with 57 minutes to go, on the cobbled section of the Moskeestraat. Although he was neutralized, the group of favorites was reduced to about 20 runners who would be the protagonist until the end.

Rain came in the last stretch. 18 minutes from the finish line, there was another important movement with 5 runners in the lead: Marlen Reusser, Lise Chabbey, Shirin van Anrroij, Silvia Persico and Margot Vanpachtenbeke. The quintet opened a gap leaving powerful cyclists such as Demi Vollering and Liane Lippert, who were finally tied head to head.

With 7 leads, SD Worx had a double winning trick with Reusser and Vollering. The Swiss woman sacrificed herself for the Dutchwoman, attacking with 4.5 to wear down her rivals and make it easier for her teammate to reach the sprint.

After the famous “curve en ese” leading up the slope before the finish line, Reusser insisted on pulling hard.. The sprint is a reality. Vollering grabbed Reusser’s wheel, but Silvia Persico seemed to be thrown, with tremendous strength allowing her to raise her arms.

Persico, World Cup bronze and stage winner in the Vuelta, signed the fourth victory in his professional careerand she succeeded her current rival, Demi Vollering, in the list of Brabanzona Arrow winners.
