Toni Bou begins a new world title defense

Toni Bou (Montessa) starts this Saturday in the town of Coruña of Arteixo a new defense of the outdoor trial world champion title, which he has won without interruption since 2007 (sixteen editions).

The race from A Coruña, which will open the World Cup, will open the championship passing through Gouveia (Portugal) next week and continue to Motegi (Japan), Baldasserrona (San Marino), San Julià de Lòria (Andorra), Sestriere (Italy) and Vertolaye (France).

At 36 years old, Toni Bou has accumulated more than a hundred victories in this discipline, and he started 2023 with three wins in four races in the X-Trial World Championship.

“This season will definitely be tough because the rivals have a high level, so it is important not to make mistakes and fight for the top positions in every race. Both the team and I did a good job in the preseason and we are ready to face the first appointment with Arteixo. Our goal, like in previous years, is to win the TrialGP title. We have the motivation and the desire,” he said in the statements given by his team.

The undisputed favorite tops the list of 73 entries where he also stands out Jaime Busto (GasGas)which caused him to lose this year’s X-Trial.

The most experienced rider in the paddock, Adam Raga (TRRS)), runner-up between 2007 and 2021 and third last year, are also among the highlights.

A list of selections that Galician wants to access Gabriel Marcelli22, sharing a team with Bou.

“The goal this year is to be on the podium as much as possible and get some success in addition to getting in the top 3 in the general classification,” said Marcelli.

In the women’s, British Emma Bristow (Sherco) will be looking for her ninth title under pressure from Spaniard Berta Abellán (Scorpa) and Italian Andrea Sofia Rabino (Beta).

This season, riders will only have a backpacker figure in 6 of the 12 action zones and a parc fermé will be set up which, in practice, will limit the time mechanics need to repair the motorcycles in between the Saturday and Sunday races.
