Yulimar Rojas: “The World Cup in Budapest took away my sleep”

Date:

the venezuelan Yulimar Rojasgold medalist at the Tokyo Olympics in the triple jump, told EFE, after being accepted his second Spanish National Sports Awardthat the World Cup in Budapest (Hungary) “takes away sleep” because it is this year’s great goal as a step before the Paris 2024 Games.

Yulimar, 27, was crowned Olympic triple jump champion at the Tokyo Olympics, where he also set a new world record of 15.67 meters, surpassing the one achieved in 1995.

Based in Guadalajara (Spain), Yulimar belongs to Iván Pedroso’s work group with some of the best jumpers in the world.

“I didn’t count on winning this award. They didn’t tell me anything. It was a surprise. I was the first woman to win the award twice. I am proud of the work we have been doing for many years and above all to be here with so many sports personalities,” said the Venezuelan athlete, who also won the Ibero-American Community Trophy National Sports Award in 2018.

“This is an award that motivates me to continue working because I have a great challenge ahead,” confessed the Venezuelan athlete, who is focused on preparing for the World Cup in Budapest.

“This is why I’m losing sleep. Budapest is the most important event of the year and the one that will continue to keep me focused on what the Games will be like. Everything he does this year will influence the next one and I think that’s what we have in mind,” he said.

“We work very well, we prepare with all the irons to go out on the track and leave everything like a beast. I want to continue to enjoy every journey, every adventure and every year I will face it with the greatest possible seriousness. Hopefully it will come to Budapest soon and we can once again claim the world crown for the seventh time in a row“said Yulimar, aiming to break his own triple jump world record.

“Gold and records are close together. I think they go together. I am a challenge athlete, an athlete who meets what is proposed and this year is very important. I want to prepare myself in the best way to get in the best physical condition and make an awesome score. For me there is no limit, the limit is set by oneself. We’ll see if it’s a record or not, but whatever comes will be well received. If not record next year at the top”, he commented.

Yulimar Rojas is the first Latin American to be recognized as the best athlete of the year 2020 by the International Association of Athletics Federations.
