Red Bull sports adviser, Austrian Helmut Markodefended his former pilot Carlos Sainzthat the future in Ferrari is doubtful. The man from Madrid, who made his Formula 1 debut with Toro Rosso in 2015, has not been able to drive for Red Bull in the following years. However, Sainz got the seat at Ferrari after years of success at Renault and McLaren.
With a good background in 2022 at Ferrari, in his first season with the Scuderia, Carlos fell for his teammate charles leclerc in most of the campaign. And after a cautious performance in 2023 after three races, some say Ferrari’s patience with the Spanish driver is running out.
So, in statements to Sport1, which collected the specialized website Motorsport.com, Marko said that “Why would Ferrari part with Carlos? It’s pointless. Carlos is doing a great job. Ferrari has other problems to think about. . in instead of asking Sainz”.
After the first three GG.PP. of the season, Sainz is fifth overall in the World Cup with 20 points. Leclerc, who led the championship after the same number of races last year, was unlucky and only had 6 points occupying 10th position.
Marko also said there could be a clause in Leclerc’s contract that would allow him to leave before his current deal.
Leclerc’s deal with Ferrari expires at the end of 2024, but the young driver has been linked with Mercedes.
“If that clause is not met, both parties have the option to terminate the agreement. Here’s how Sebastian Vettel he easily changed teams and went to Ferrari in 2015,” said Marko.
