British cyclist Anna Henderson became the first leader of the women’s La Vuelta after Jumbo-Visma claimed victory in the team time trial that served as the first stage of this seven-stage event.

Henderson’s team completed the 14.5-kilometer route through the streets of the Alicante town of Torrevieja and crossed the finish line at Playa de los Locos in a time of 18’03”, just beating Canyon//SRAM by a second. Third was Trek-Segafredo with 18’12” and the Movistar Team of world champion Annemiek Van Vleuten, last to start, fourth with 18’15”.
This Tuesday the second stage will be held starting from Orihuela and arriving at Pilar de la Horadada, two other towns in the province of Alicante. It will be a mainly flat route of 105.8 kilometers where the Rebate Pass (category 4) will be crowned by road.
