Date:

The Murcia Bid Commission for the 2030 World Cup met this Thursday at the Football Federation of the Region of Murcia to take a step further in the work agenda that aims to make the capital the headquarters of Spain’s bid for the World Cup co-organize 2030. Councilor for Culture, Tourism and Sport, Pedro García Rex, was called upon to report on the reconstruction and extension study of the current Enrique Roca stadium, which was presented on April 28, meeting the Commission’s deadline. Among the proposals included in this project is envisaged increasing the capacity to 45,179 spectators through a new grandstand that raises the top ring and roof. In addition, the reform of some existing dependencies and the construction of a new three-storey annex with an expansion area of more than 15,000 m2 are planned, all to meet the minimum functional program required by FIFA. With regard to the suburban area, the municipal study considers several alternatives to increase the number of parking spaces, in all cases obtaining a larger capacity than required by FIFA, with a specific parking area for trucks and buses. In the section on other facilities, it is proposed to replace the currently existing metal halide technology with 250 LED technology projectors with a unit power of 1,500 W to ensure the lighting level of 2,000 lux required by FIFA. In addition, a 6,000 m2 photovoltaic solar installation is also proposed to ensure that 75% of the total energy consumption comes from renewable sources.
