Despite the pain in his right side and the sacrum problems, the Belgian world champion Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick Step), victim of two falls in the fifth stage, will start this Thursday in the sixth of the Giro d’Italia.
“After the first crash, things seemed to go well for Remco, which was a great relief at the time. The problem was that after his second accident he had a lot of pain on his right side and a bruise that there is contraction of the muscles, as well as some problems with the sacrum,” explains the doctor in the practice Toon Cruyt.
According to the doctor, “hopefully a good massage and osteopathic treatment, followed by a good night’s rest, things will improve”, but he predicted that “the sixth stage will be difficult for him”.
After receiving treatment during the race, Evenepoel stood up and returned to his bike to continue the stage. Four teammates waited to bring him back to the peloton, which, meanwhile, slowed down after the incident.
After the first crash Evenepoel joined the peloton a few kilometers later. The last kilometers are not so easy, and the Belgian falls to the ground again, like a small field is preparing for a huge sprint.
On the plus side, this incident occurred within the final three kilometers of stage five, meaning Remco posted the same time as winner Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and retained his place in the Giro all in all.
