Firmino scored in his farewell, but Liverpool did not win

Date:

Roberto Firmino scored on Sunday in his Liverpool farewell, but the ‘reds’, who failed to secure a place in the next Champions League, could not win against relegated and bottom club Southampton. At Saint Mary’s Stadium the match between ‘Saints’ and Liverpool ended 4-4. Southampton will play next season in the Championship (the English Second, like Leicester and Leeds, who were relegated this Sunday, while Everton were saved).

Two of the players who left Liverpool at the end of the season, Firmino and James Milner, started. Diogo Jota capitalized on Romeo Lavia’s pass error to score the first goal against the ‘Saints’. Firminó scored in the 14th minute, a pass from Fabinho, making it 2-0, the last goal of his time as a Liverpool player.

James Ward-Prowse (19′) closed the gap and Kamaldeen Sulemana made it 2-2 after 28 minutes of this busy match. Sulemanda himself made it 3-2 in the 47th minute, while Adam Armstrong increased the ‘Saints’ lead in the 64th minute.

Liverpool reacted with a goal from Cody Gakpo in the 72′ (assist by Mohamed Salah) and another from Diogo Jota, who completed his brace in the 73′ with an assist from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Salah, who in the networks was “disheartened” by not qualifying for the Champions League, crashed the ball against the post, but no one could move the 4-4 in which they both closed this Premier, it takes too long for the ‘Saints. ‘ (relegated since May 13 and after 11 years in the Premier) and for the ‘reds’ (no Champions). Liverpool, 5th, will play in the Europa League. Salah finished the tournament with 19 goals, Erling Haaland became the ‘pichichi’ with 36.
