Shooter Juan Antonio Saavedra, first place for Spain at the Paralympic Games in Paris

the pontevedres Juan Antonio Saavedra has obtained the first place for the Spanish Paralympic Team in Paris 2024 Games after winning the gold medal at the Changwon Shooting World Cup (South Korea), a competition that provided direct classification to its winners.

With a score of 637.7 in the initial round, a new record for Spain, Saavedra was the best of the eight shooters who reached the final of the mixed 10-meter prone rifle event (R3). There she made a new demonstration of marksmanship until she won the gold medal with 253.4 points, ahead of Ukrainian Iryna Shchetnik (252.9) and Thai Chutina Arunmat (231.3).

With this victory, the Galician also ensured his presence in Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, the sixth he will attend the shooter after competing in Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, London 2012 (with a silver medal), Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 (bronze). In this last Paralympic event, Saavedra was also the first athlete to earn a qualifying place for Spain.
