Erling Haalandforward of City of Manchester, denied that he was seen as “the most important player in the world”, although he said that he played the best season of his sports career. The Norwegian forward, in his first season at City, scored 52 goals in 52 games, the best figure of his career, as well as winning the Premier League and FA Cup and one game away from the Champions League.
“We are one step away from making history. Winning the Champions League is a dream and I will do everything I can for it,” Haaland said at Manchester City’s ‘media day’ before the final in Istanbul. “Without me, this team would have won everything except the Champions League, I came here partly for that,” the Norwegian replied when asked about his arrival at City.
“It has been the best season of my career,” added the striker, who however has only scored one goal in his last seven games. “I don’t think about that. You can think that I have scored 52 goals or that I have scored one in seven. I don’t care much.” The attacker was asked if he sees himself as the most important player in the world and was clear: “I don’t feel like I’m the most important player in the world.”
