Christian Horner admits to a interview for Motorsport Magazine that’s the team red bull is very interested in signing the Fernando Alonso up to three times. Even in one of them, the first time he tried his signature, it was not closed simply because of the difference in the standard of the duration of the contract.
“I went to his manager to sign him for 2008 and 2009. He only wanted to sign a one-year contract, but the position of Mr. Matzchitz is two years or nothing. He did not commit to it,” said Horner. “We thought he had a contract with Ferrari for 2009, although Flavio was trying to bring it to Renault,” he added. Alonso ended up driving for Renault in those 2008 and 2009 before joining Ferrari in 2010.
Horner explained that Red Bull have not given up on trying to sign the Spaniard. “In mid-2009 I tried her again”, was assured. Again, he was unsuccessful in his signing, although there was still a third attempt to go.
“We talked again at an airport in 2011 or 2012. But the real choice was the first one,” Horner admitted. However, Alonso did not end up signing for Red Bull.
