The US Open 2023 kicked off this Thursday in Los Angeles in a big way. Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele were the main stars, both signing -8 which set a new record for this ‘big’, with Scottie Scheffler (-3) and Jon Rahm (-1) forced to return.
Sometimes, other golfers seem to have a shot at that shared recordwith Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy at the helm.
Dustin Johnson was a -6 with three holes to gobut signed three pars and had to settle for second position, shared with Wyndham Clark.
McIlroy got off to a great start with five birdies in the first eight holes, but ended his round with a bogey on the 18th., his only mistake of the day, leaving him third with -5. He tied with Bryan Harman.
Further from the leaders is Rahmchampion of this year’s Augusta Masters, who started at a -1 and seven impacts away.
The best Spaniard is Alejandro Del Rey, with -2, the result of three birdies and an eagle for three bogeys.. David Puig carded a 69 stroke, one under par, while Sergio García signed for par. Pablo Larrazábal finished with one over par.
The United States Open will be held until this Sunday and in several days of chaos in the world of golf after it was announced, which surprised many golfers, the union of the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour and the controversial Saudi LIV Golf .
