In a very interesting interview with izaskun ruiz for DAZN at Silverstone Media Day marking his return not only from the holidays but after taking down two previous GGPPs, Joan Mir shared his feelings after the first half of the championship in Repsol Honda, his vision of the future from the hand of the Japanese manufacturer and a fact that does not matter considering his age, 25 years. The Spaniard, who is experiencing his worst sporting streak since competing on motorcycles, admitted to the journalist: “I thought about staying at home once.” The interview ‘Joan Mir, renewed forces’ aired this Wednesday on the leading sports streaming platform.
But in the same way that he admitted it, he also admitted that “I am convinced that in the future I would have regretted it. If one day I do that, I have to be sure that I will not regret it in the future. No now is the time, I know I will regret it.” Despite the difficult times, the World champion was left with the positive news of the last months: “I am lucky to be a father. In difficult moments, having a light of joy is incredible. It came from a fable, it gave me the strength to keep trying”.
In the interview, the Mallorcan pilot also admitted that he put himself in the hands of a sports psychologist, a subject that continues to be forbidden for many elite athletes when it is necessary help such as a physical trainer, physiotherapist or doctor. : “An elite athlete feeds on good results and good times (…) We are lucky to do what we love, we earn a very good living, but we are under a lot of pressure from a very young age. From Since I’m 10 years old, I’ve been under that pressure of ‘wake up or we will not continue’. This year, before the break, my head said ‘calm down, let’s prioritize things’. I’ve been working with a sports psychologist and doing everything I think is necessary, because I want to continue and give everything”.
Joan Mir He is Moto3 world champion with Honda and wants to succeed with Honda, he has not thrown in the towel: “I want to continue and give everything. I want to return to this situation with Honda. Not because I am looking for other alternatives , I like what works here (…) I never thought of saying ‘I’m going to stop this factory and go to another one’. If someone trusts me, I trust them too. If not, not I will join it. For me this is the best team in the world, which is going through a difficult time”.
The Spaniard also has words of admiration for Álex Rins, who is his colleague at Suzuki and who, after signing for Honda -Mir in the official team and Rins in the satellite-asked for a transfer to Yamaha for 2024, who gave in in their second year: ” He coped better than me in the difficult moments, both when Suzuki decided to stop or this year at Honda. When we both have everything in place, maybe at some point I got a little more . But in difficult moments, he got more oil than me. He knows how to do better than me in difficult moments. This year he managed to win in Austin, something that is very bad in the situation of bike. I wish him the best at Yamaha, he’s a great rider.”
In the situation he is with now Marc Marquez “What would really worry me is being in this situation and after this bike wins races, it will worry me even more. But if Marc suffers on this bike, that means the situation is desperate. He’s the best rider on the grid , without a doubt. It’s not good to see a rider with so many wins in the past struggling. We have to bear with it no matter what and hope we feel even better with both of us on the bike “.
