A minor player from the cadet category team of Mas Pellicer de Reus (Tarragona) He reported that last Sunday he was attacked by the father of a member of the rival team, Vila-seca, after the match between both clubs on a field in Reus.
According to La Vanguardia, the man pushed the victim, who is of Dominican origin, and grabbed him by the neck, defaming him in disputes related to the development of the competition.
The Mossos d’Esquadra treated the event as a normal fight and separated it from an attack for racist reasons.
However, the event caused a wave of reactions and displays of solidarity in favor of the minor.
In a statement released on Instagram, Mas Pellicer, the team where the victim plays, denied what happened on Sunday: “The club strongly condemns what a player from our school suffered with support and help .”
Rival Vila-seca, the club where the aggressor’s son plays, also joined in condemning the violent act, which it considered “regrettable.”
The club clarified that it “cannot control the behavior of each of the parents, family members and companions of the players who belong to our club.”
“The internal measures that must be taken will be taken and we will leave the clarification of the facts in the hands of the ordinary justice system,” stated CF Vila-seca.
