It has not been an easy year for Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Greek is going through a big crisis of results that keeps him away from the top positions in the ATP rankings.
His latest retreats, both on the American tour and at the start of his Asian tour, which leads him to make drastic decisions on his work team, such as letting his father gothe man who guided his career since he was a child, in August.
“I gave him some free time, which he hadn’t had since I was 12 years old. I think it’s healthy for him to take longer off the track and feel renewed again,” explains Stefanos, who has recovered from Mark Philippoussis, whom he counted on as a mentor in the past.
Without the powerful figure of the Apostle at his side, The Australian took command of the team, with the idea of exchanging with the tennis player’s fatherwith a possible chance only at the Grand Slams, because Philippoussis wants to be the one who directs the tennis player’s route, without interference.
If that is so, The experience was unsuccessful and Stefanos decided to end his collaboration with Mark Philippoussis.. “I felt I was out of rhythm. My collaboration with Mark was over,” he explained a few weeks ago to Eurosport Greece.
It remains to be seen what will happen from then.to find out if he will look for something new to get his career back on track or if he will return to his father’s advice and guidance, as everyone expected.
And effectively it did. Apostolos Tsitsipas once again took the reins of his son’s career. “My father is always by my side, even when he is not there.“he assured the statements on ‘Tennis TV’.
“He is here to stay. I have no intention of changing or driving my father away. People always make up rumours or trying to destroy what you have with someone close to you. In some ways, he’s someone I can’t get rid of,” he added before giving his assessment of the short time under Philippoussis.
“He is no longer part of the team. I wanted to try it with a coach and see what it would be like to work without feeling the presence of my father, and I feel like I’m losing part of my identity as a player. I didn’t adapt to Mark’s working methodsthat I admired and loved watching on television as a child”
