The FIFA Council, meeting this Wednesday, decided to lift the suspension of Russia’s U-17 teams in accordance with the decision made last week by the UEFA Executive Committee.
The continental body made this agreement last Tuesday, September 26, with FIFA approving the extension of this decision to the FIFA U-17 World Cup in both men’s and women’s categories, with European competitions serving as a pathway of qualification.
However, this permission is conditional on teams playing under the name “Russian Football Union” instead of “Russia”, in the absence of their national flag, national anthem, national team uniform and equipment, and instead is playing with neutral colors.
“The FIFA Council reiterates its condemnation of Russia’s illegal war in Ukraine and confirms that the remaining terms of the decision taken on February 28, 2022 will remain in force until the end of the conflict,” added the highest body of football in the world. .
