Golf has that magic, that inexplicable thing, that binds a group together, binds them together and turns on one of them. That’s what happened at Golf Entrepinos, located in the magical enclave of Simancas, in the final round of the III Castilla y León PGAe Professional Championship, the fifth round of the PGAs Spain Golf Tour Circuit.
Pablo Martin Benavides He is one of the rookies who made history in Spanish golf since in 2007 he became the first rookie to win a professional DP World Tour tournament in Portugal. From there his career was meteoric, adding two more victories as a professional. But life showed him the other side of the coin.
Because of a difficult and exhausting divorce, he stopped playing golf and for six years he left the fields for the courts trying to get his children back. A fight he gave up as lost and now he’s trying to get back to the sport that gave him everything.
“In September I gave up because of the impossibility of fighting the Swedish system, so I decided to go back to golf, trying to see my children again through the sport. Now, every shot I took, every putt I made was for them. Imagining that they will see me, that they know that I never forget them, that they are always with me and I hope that one day I will see them again. That is what motivated me to play my first professional tournament in six year,” explained a very excited Pablo Martín.
His success did not leave anyone indifferent. The man from Malaga offered a real exhibition of golf. Because Pablo came to Entrepinos with only illusion, hope and desire to start a new life; and he left with success, many friends, the love of all his teammates and the public that came to see him win.
“In the PGA you never walk alone,” Ander Martínez, president of the PGA of Spain, told him during the emotional awards ceremony where even the mayor of Simancas, Alberto Plaza, struggled not to be carried away emotions.
In sports, Pablo Martín left his mark in Golf Entrepinos, with that stratospheric golf that captivated us all fifteen years ago and this Friday he showed all its essence. And we had to wait until the last hole to celebrate his victory, because the very young amateur Jaime Julve came like a motorcycle with four birdies, but he did not add the fifth on the last hole and was only one stroke away (-11). ) to force a playoff.
