The keys to the 12th stage of Giro: "Perhaps Movistar should be on the breakaway"

Rafael Carrascoformer professional cyclist and former sports director of the historic Kelme team, is reviewing the 12th stage of the Giro d’Italia for MD.

1. OLDANI, THE BEST IN A PROPICIOUS STAGE FOR GETAWAYS

As expected, there were escapees. It is a land with climbs and the longest stage of this Giro. The sprinters are tired and the others are gone. Their teams didn’t work the same way to get there as a group because the stages were long, so the riders who lost time looked for a breakaway and achieved victory here. Three runners came in the lead and Oldani deserved to win after working very well in the last kilometer.

2. TREK-SEGAFREDO CONTROL

None of the favorites moved on to a day of leader control. ‘Juanpe’ López’s Trek-Segafredo worked well at the head of the peloton to control the distance to the breakaway.

3. LITTLE SPANISH PROTAGONISM

Perhaps some Movistar runners tried to be breakaway, which, despite many, there were no Spaniards. For their part, López, Landa and Valverde are in their place, waiting for other stages in search of victories or overall classification.

4. FAVORITES, WAITING

The favorites are still waiting in their moment, for their land to come. No one moved and they did what was best for them, faced the stage calmly, rested and waited another day for the mountain to arrive. The leader really worked with his team to defend the ‘pink jersey’.

5. DUEL BETWEEN ESCAPE AND SPRINTERS

Now he expects a short stretch of 150 kilometers. It will be fast and a breakaway will be sought again to win the stage. The question is whether any of the sprinters will try to control the race, although it will be difficult. So outside the third-rate port is likely to form the breakout of the day.
