The town hall of Mertonthe neighborhood where the All England Club is located, approved the expansion of Wimbledon on Thursday night, which aims to transform the park next to the club to create a stadium for 8,000 spectators and 38 grass courts.
The next step for the reform of Wimbledon Park if the golf course, well, it will receive the green light from Wandsworth council and the mayor of London.
This proposal became controversial, as residents of the area united to protest because of the environmental damage that would resultby destroying a green area like the current park.
This initiative, called Save Wimbledon Parkcollected more than 13,000 signatures and lead to 75 people will demonstrate this Thursday at the voting headquarterswhich received six votes in favor and four against.
If expansion is achieved the approval of Wandsworth and the mayorthe new runways will not be available until 2030 at the earliest.
