A fan of Marseilles was sentenced to four months in prison without pay for throwing a rock at a bus carrying fans of Lyonattacked on October 29, as well as the players and the coaching staff around the Vélodrome.
A light sentence
Thomas S., 22 years old and a shop assistant, appeared remorseful before three judges of the Marseille Correctional Court and justified himself by saying that night he had gone through “a moment of madness.” The low severity of the sentence reflects that it cannot be determined whether the projectile he launched hit a vehicle or a person.
The young man, one of the nine arrested for throwing objects at the buses of Lyonwas in temporary prison for 24 days, when the events occurred.
This is the first conviction for the incidents that embarrassed France on October 29 and the highest point was the throwing of stones at the coach of the Lyon team in which the coach was injured. Fabio Grossoin addition to his assistant, who forced him to suspend the Marseille-Lyonscheduled for December 6.
The Marseille Prosecutor’s Office has another open procedure for the incidents of that day. Investigating the criminal responsibility of the Nazi salutes and simian gestures of the radicals of Lyon towards fans of Marseilles.
These latter charges are subject to provocation of racial hatred and racial insults and are punishable with up to five years in prison.
