Diego Llorente replaces Laporte in the national team

Date:

Days after Premier’s win, Manchester City centre-back falls for first time since qualifying from La Roja list

Diego Llorente has been called up by Luis Enrique for the next four games of the Spanish team, which corresponds to the League of Nations, after he learned that Aymeric Laporte has been dropped from the list due to injury. The Leeds centre-back returns to call after a stellar season with the England squad, with whom he was saved on the final day, as a fixture in Bielsa and Marsch’s teams.

It is the national team’s first break in which Laporte cannot be called up on all FIFA dates since he could be selected by Spain in June 2021. His absence comes after Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, where the former Athletic defender is the undisputed starter, having won the Premier after the epic comeback against Aston Villa on the final day.

The 25 selected by the Asturian coach will be called up to the Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas, next Monday, May 30, from 13:30. While their professional colleagues are already on vacation, these chosen ones will have to play four matches in ten days.

The first of those four games will take place at the Benito Villamarín, on June 2, against Portugal. Three days later, Spain will play against the Czech Republic in Prague, while on June 9 will be measured against Switzerland in Geneva. Finally, on December 12, the team will face the Czech Republic again, at La Rosaleda in Malaga. All matches can be seen in La 1 from 8:45 PM.
