“I’m smarter than Ancelotti”

Date:

“Due to the fact that it has no European competition, I think Girona will fight until the end for the Liga, because I think Atlético de Madrid and Barcelona will also fight. And watch out for Bilbao, who will play well!”

This is how Carlo Ancelotti, coach of Real Madrid, spoke a few days ago about the rivals he saw as options to compete with his team for the Liga title. The fact of Athletic joining them caused some surprise in Bilbao. Mikel Vesga, a player in Valverde’s current squad, is very clear on this matter.

“I was surprised, logically, by what Ancelotti said. I don’t think at all about those types of objectives. I’m much more sensible. The teams at the top are on a different level. I hope we can be there competing until the end, but I know that I say that our goal is to be in Europe next year, which is what we want and we will fight for it,” argues Vesga himself.

The Athletic footballer, a team that at this point of the season is in fifth position in the table with 35, also emphasizes his message in the red and white key: “Thinking about Ancelotti does not help. Last year before the break we are also Champions positions and it looks like we will finish in the top four, but… We have seen that the season is long, there are peaks of form. It is not easy to stay there all year. We will fight and fight until the end to achieve the interesting goal looking forward to next year.”

When asked today in the press room about the Super League, Vesga replied “I can’t answer you because the truth is I haven’t read anything about it and I don’t know how it works.”
