FIFA sanctions Argentina heading into 2026 World Cup

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has authorized the partial closure of the stadium for its next match to the teams of Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Uruguay, due to incidents in the South American qualifying group matches for the 2026 World Cup that have been played since September.

The penalty against Argentina

Failure to comply with this plan within six months will mean another fine (50,000 Swiss francs) for Chile, which will have to pay an additional 5,000 francs for its team’s misconduct (5 individual penalties) in match against Uruguay in September.

Colombia and Uruguay

The choice of Colombia will play its next match with its stadium partially closed, at least 25% of its seats, and received a fine of 30,000 Swiss francs, to invest in the anti-discrimination plan, for delaying the clash against Chile and the discriminatory attitude of his fans in September, along with a fine of more than 500 francs for throwing objects and delay too. in the rivalry with Uruguay in October.

The Disciplinary Commission imposed another fine of 50,000 Swiss francs on the Colombian team, with the condition of complying with the aforementioned plan within six months.

Uruguay is another team that should close the field in their next match (at least 25%) and pay a fine of 30,000 Swiss francs, directed to an anti-discrimination plan, for delays against Colombia and Brazil and discriminatory behavior of their followers against in Argentina. Failure to follow the plan within six months will lead to another penalty of 50,000 more francs.

It’s fine in Brazil

Other FIFA sanctions are affecting Brazil, with a fine of 5,000 Swiss francs due to the delay and field invasion in the match against Bolivia in September; 15,000 for team misconduct (5 individual penalties) against Uruguay in October and 50,000 for not guaranteeing order in the stadium and surroundings in the aforementioned match against Argentina in November.

Bolivia was also fined 5,000 Swiss francs for team misconduct (5 individual penalties) in the match against Paraguay in October; Ecuador with 5,000 for the field invasion against Uruguay in September; Paraguay with 4,000 for throwing things against Colombia in November and Peru with 7,500 for the field invasion against Argentina in October and 10.00 for the delay against Bolivia in November.

Sanctioned players
