Gianni Infantino, FIFA president, wrote a scathing letter on Saturday after the racist incidents that took place in Udine and Sheffield, which he called “totally disgusting and totally unacceptable. There is no place for to racism or any form of discrimination, neither in football nor in society. The affected players have my full support.”
He insisted on the need to take steps “by all interested parties”, starting with education in schools so that they understand that any kind of racial discrimination is not part of society or football.
But it is especially strict when it comes to measures that must be adopted. Not only that the game was stopped as soon as the incidents happened, but also harsh actions against the teams by the fans who cause them and very strong legal measures against those who promote these attitudes:
“In addition to the three-stop process: game suspended, game resumed, game abandoned; we need to implement automatic expulsion for the team whose fans committed racist acts and caused the game to be abandoned , as well as banning access to the stadium of all kinds. the world and criminal charges for racists.”
The letter concludes by asserting support from FIFA against victims of racism and zero tolerance against any form of discrimination.
