Russian President Vladimir Putin is reportedly planning to travel to North Korea soon. The North Korean government led by Kim Jong-un announced this. They are ready to “welcome the best friend of the Korean people with the utmost sincerity.” Abroad, however, the rapprochement is viewed with suspicion.
In the war against Ukraine, the Russian army has used not only artillery ammunition, but apparently also ballistic missiles from North Korea. Observers now fear that special forces from Russia could help the dictatorial country with its weapons programs. It has already been announced that support will be provided for the construction of satellites.
Mutual visits
Just last week, the Russian government confirmed its close cooperation with North Korea. At that time, Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui was visiting. In September 2023, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un traveled to the Russian Far East to meet with Putin. This was followed by a visit by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to the capital Pyongyang (see video above). There was talk of a “future-oriented relationship” between the two countries.
Putin has not yet traveled to North Korea. In any case, the “good friend of the Korean people” would be welcomed “with the utmost sincerity,” the report said. The Russian president is said to have already declared his willingness to visit the isolated communist country soon.
